Import and export data of lab-grown diamonds in India June 2022
As the world's largest diamond processing base, India has almost monopolized the cutting and grinding market of lap-grown diamonds. According to the latest data from GJEPC, the demand for lap-grown diamonds is still high, and the industry boom is expected to continue.
In June 2022, the import value of rough lap-grown diamonds in India was US$148 million, a year-on-year increase of 47.39%, and the export value of rough lap-grown diamonds was US$149 million, a year-on-year increase of 56.78%.
Between April 2022 and June 2022, total exports of loose lab-grown diamonds increased by 83.02% to $475.37 million, compared to $259.73 million in the same period last year.
In June, the import value of natural rough diamonds in India was US$1.766 billion, an increase of 3.79% year-on-year, and the export value of natural rough diamonds was US$2.017 billion, an increase of 2.25% year-on-year.
In terms of penetration rate, the import penetration rate of Indian lap-grown diamonds in June was 7.75%, a year-on-year increase of +2.15pct; the export-end penetration rate was 6.89%, a year-on-year increase of +2.32pct.
Industry insiders said that the global supply of rough diamonds is currently in short supply, the penetration rate of the lap-grown diamond industry has further increased, and the future market development prospects are broad.
